Have you ever wondered why certain things occur in your life despite your best efforts? I’ve asked this question many times and recently I’ve begun to view adversity not as a setback but a redirection towards something better
When things don’t go as planned in our lives it’s natural to wonder why and what we could’ve done to create a different outcome. Like many recent graduates, I’ve had difficulty obtaining a job in my field after college. This has not only been disappointing, but it has also left me questioning myself at times.
It seems from the time we first enter school as children we are told to earn good grades so that one day we can go to college and get a good job. Well I did just that, overcoming setbacks and struggles along the way. When I reached my senior year of college and began applying for jobs I believed I had done all of the “right” things to prepare myself for an exciting and enjoyable career. Unfortunately, I happened to be graduating during a time when there weren’t many job opportunities due to the ongoing economic crisis. I suddenly found myself with a degree, student loan debt, and no significant source of income. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement.
After endless job applications and interviews that didn’t materialize into offers, I struggled to find daily motivation. For so long my motivation was fueled by graduating and the idea of having a well-paying career. Now I had to redirect my focus into something else and I had no idea where to begin. During this time, I worked a few jobs as I needed a source of income, but I was never satisfied with what I was doing. While I was grateful for the work, I knew I wanted to be engaged in something that was meaningful to me.
With the support and encouragement from my family, I took a brave step and decided to create this blog. I’ve always had an interest in learning about the human body and psychology. After some brainstorming, it seemed fitting to share that interest with others by creating a blog that discussed topics related to health wellness and personal development. Although I’m not using my degree in the way I planned, the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained from it are being utilized in a meaningful way to me.
Instead of viewing adversity as a negative occurrence, I’ve learned to view adversity as something that’s not happening to me, it’s happening for me”. Without going through those uncertain and challenging moments I wouldn’t have the resiliency that I have today. Now I wake up each day motivated to create quality content that I’m passionate about.
If you are facing adversity and uncertainty just know that each day does get better. There may be days when you have to look a little harder to find the light at the end of the tunnel, but know it is there. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and believe that better days are ahead.
