Whether you’re aware of it or not, the spiritual energy you carry impacts your life in various ways. When we hold onto bad feelings, thoughts and emotions we create an environment conducive to a negative atmosphere. The good news is, you have the ability to change this. I know from personal experience how difficult it can be to rid yourself of negative energy. My past self-criticism and self-esteem struggles often left me feeling sad, frustrated, and sometimes defeated . As a result of these feelings, I unintentionally opened the door for negative energy to take residence in my life. It has taken me some time to learn how to better manage those moments when I’m not feeling the most exhilarated.
So how does one deal with sudden or lingering negative energy?
The first step towards removing negative energy in your life is to identify the source(s) that trigger a negative disposition. Some of the main causes of negative energy in one’s life includes:

Having the courage to admit to yourself, and even others, when you’re in a negative space is an important step towards removing negative energy from your life. When you acknowledge how you feel, you release certain strongholds that keep you from living a happier and more fulfilled life. Society teaches us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and to keep going when we’re knocked down.
This is a good motto for overcoming certain things in life, however we need to alter this approach when it comes to our spiritual well-being. Human emotion is complex and just like other human characteristics, it varies with each person. While we shouldn’t allow our feelings to paralyze us, we also shouldn’t brush them aside, as they will continue to resurface and affect our spirit until we properly deal with them.

Surrounding yourself with positive people is one of the most important ways you can begin to remove negative energy from your life. As I stated earlier, one of the main sources of negative energy in many people’s life is the company they keep.
If you’re constantly surrounded by people who complain and talk about negative things, as if they are going out of style, you’re more than likely going to feel NEGATIVE. As a result, you will begin to take on negative energy, and misery sure loves company.
Once you allow others to project their negative words, views, and beliefs into your spirit, you become saddled with those toxic burdens. I don’t know about you, but I have enough personal minutia to carry around each day. I refuse to allow others to add to it by dumping their toxicity onto me.
Eliminating these people from your inner circle can be difficult, especially if they are family. Here’s my approach to that, “you can love family from a distance if needed”.
I’m the most fulfilled in life when I’m able to spend time enjoying the things that I love. Whether it’s reading, learning something new, or spending time with family and friends, it’s important for me to have these positive sources in my life.

Words, words, words. I could write a book about the power of words (hmm, note to self). Over the last few years I have consciously worked on speaking more kindly to myself. As a result, the most astonishing thing has happened…..I’ve started to develop a better view of myself, which has led to positive energy. Gasp!
If you’ve struggled with self-esteem and self-criticism, then you know how difficult it can be to speak positively towards yourself. When you first begin it can feel a little jarring. I admit it was difficult the first few times I began speaking positively to myself. It was such a foreign feeling after so many years of self-deprecation, part of me didn’t know how to respond to this new tone of voice.
Practicing positive affirmations is one of the best techniques you can adopt to remove negative energy from your life. There are many resources available to help you practice daily affirmations including my Pinterest and Instagram accounts.
I suggest writing your affirmations down and posting them in a visible place. Use them as a visual reminder when you feel any sort of negative energy trying to schedule an unwelcome visit.
Removing negative energy from your life requires a conscious and honest effort. It may not be easy in the beginning and that’s okay. Encourage yourself each day and celebrate the mini milestones along the way and with time your mind, body, and spirit will be much brighter.
